Since January, Energy Minister/Premier Houston has remained adamantly opposed to the securitization of Nova Scotia Power's assets. Last Friday, he abruptly announced that NSP would be permitted to proceed "with the politics removed from the discussion".
Putting aside who was responsible for these politics, why the sudden about-face?
Maybe one of the Energy Minister/Premier's assistants reminded him that, at the start of the week, Emera (parent of NSP) merged with Canadian Utilities, making it one of the 20 largest utilities in North America with its head office in Halifax. And that had he continued to object to NSP submitting its securitization plans to the Energy Board (his creation), it would make a mockery his claim that "Nova Scotia is open for business".
