Biographical Information


Dr. Larry Hughes is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Dr. Hughes leads the Department’s Energy Research Group, which examines energy and environmental concerns that pertain to Atlantic Canada. He has many years of experience in research and publications on energy security and climate change.

In addition to the above, Dr. Hughes has given numerous talks to community groups in Nova Scotia.

Between 2002 and 2005, he issued annual, independent reviews of Nova Scotia’s energy strategy. He is also a frequent contributor to various media outlets in Canada including the Globe and Mail and the Chronicle Herald. He has been interviewed on both television (CBC, CTV, and ATV), CBC radio (Information Morning, Maritime Noon, Mainstreet, and The Current), and local talk radio.

In addition to his research into energy and the environment, Dr. Hughes is also active in the design of innovative communication systems. He has a cross appointment with the Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie University and is an Honourary Research Associate in the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of New Brunswick.

His PhD in Computing Science is from the Computing Laboratory of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
